Most Americans are looking for ways to bring in some additional revenue due to furlough, salary cuts, growing unemployment, and the rising cost of living. I compiled a list of opportunities you can do on the side and around your normal workday.

You can become a teacher placing an advertisement using Craigslist or within the local paper can be inexpensive, but could really add supplemental income to your household. A dance instructor’s hourly rate is approximately $19.00 while a music teacher earns about $21.00 an hour.
2)Income Tax Preparer – Preparing taxes is one thing that most Americans hate. There are a lot of people who would pass this to an expert. It helps if you are certified, but it’s not a requirement. Most accountants currently have the credentials to become certified. You can even take a tax course to get your side business started. Median salary is $19.00 an hour, but if you are certified it’s $26.00 an hour.
3)Handyman / Contractor – If you are good at fixing things from plumbing to electrical or repairing cars there could be extra money in it for you. You can advertise on Craigslist or in your local paper as a skilled handyman to fix household items like a hot water heater, or painting, power washing homes and fences. The median price for this type of work is $18.00 an hour.
4)Bookkeeper – Most small businesses are currently reducing their headcount due to the economy. You can benefit by taking care of simple bookkeeping tasks that can be done off hours.
